AI-SOFTWARE LAMA (LEG ANGLE MEASUREMENT ASSISTANT) TO BE RELEASED MARCH 2020

18.03.2020

ImageBiopsy has developed the world’s first fully automated full leg annotation software powered by AI

Motivation: Frontal plane deformities in the lower extremity are common and may lead to late degenerative changes in the hip, knee and ankle due to the inability of these joints to compensate for deformation. The mechanical effects of load distribution make it biologically and mechanically plausible that malalignment may influence the incidence and progression of different diseases. Several methods of measuring the lower extremities have been described (analog, semi-automated on-screen and digital) (1), each of which is prone to both intra-observer and inter-observer variability and can be a tedious and time consuming task to complete. Automated AI-based measurements of the lower extremities can provide accurate results through a reproducible measuring technique.

Intended Use: IB Lab LAMA is a radiological fully-automated image processing software device of either computed (CR) or directly digital (DX) images intended to aid medical professionals in the measurement of preoperative leg geometry to aid detection of presence or absence of deformities based on anatomical and mechanical angles according to Paley (2,3), anatomic mechanical angle (AMA), Mikulicz-Line, as well as length of tibia, femur and leg on stitched standing AP radiographs of the leg of adult humans.

Standard radiographs are required for the radiological evaluation of the leg axis in the frontal plane: a whole leg while standing in the anterior – posterior AP beam path. These are forwarded from the PACS to LAMA, and artificial intelligence driven annotations are attached to the original study.

About IBLAB:

ImageBiopsy Lab is developing a novel, AI-supported modular MSK software platform for standardized, objective and automated analysis of medical  images. We have made it our mission to change the processes, efficiency and quality of musculoskeletal (MSK) radiology with AI-solutions. For this we have developed a new, modular AI-based MSK software platform for standardized, objective and automated analyses. Our software is already used by radiologists and orthopaedists both domestically and abroad.
