Rewellio closes Euro 800K financing round to reinvent stroke rehabilitation

22.03.2019

Vienna, Austria – Los Angeles, USA – March 18, 2019 - Rewellio GmbH has secured Euro 800K in funding to develop and expand its stroke rehabilitation software platform designed for both therapists and patients. Using affordable, mobile and easily accessible consumer electronics such as tablets, virtual reality headsets and EMG-biofeedback armbands, rewellio is building new rehabilitation applications with the aim of a faster and more enjoyable self-empowered recovery process.

The two institutional participants in this funding round are Austria’s federal promotional bank (AWS) and Austria’s research promotion agency (FFG) supporting early stage startups with international expansion and R&D ambitions respectively. Andreas Riegler, who joined rewellio in its early founding stage is now followed by Jürgen Wahl, a stroke survivor himself, who committed his angel investment to rewellio on the belief that more intelligent therapy is needed for the rapidly growing number of currently 17 million stroke victims per year around the world. Further angel investors include the Austrian entrepreneur Guntard Gutmann and Hubert Zajicek, co-founder and CEO of the widely successfulHealth Wildcatters accelerator in the United States.

With an office in Los Angeles already established and with certifications as a medical device for its patient centric and data driven therapy platform in the United States (FDA) and Europe (CE), rewellio is well positioned to enter international markets. The addition of Dallas based Hubert Zajicek will further support rewellio’s US market expansion plans. Certifications for Canada and Australia are underway.

Georg Teufl, CEO and Founder of rewellio is proud of this milestone reached: “During my ten years of work as a physiotherapist specialized on stroke rehabilitation, I have been very fortunate to see the pros and cons of conventional therapy tools and methods. In combination with my previous degree in software development I am now able to understand both worlds, therapy and coding. With the financial resources secured now, we will be able to start turning our ambitious vision of reinventing the stroke rehabilitation industry into reality”.

Rewellio has recently opened its “early adopters program” working with and considering a few more organizations in the stroke therapy space for participation. While preparing the commercial launch of its subscription-based products in Q3 of this year, it is accepting applications for a free software/hardware bundle at info@rewellio.com
