TAmiRNA brings new miRNA insights to ECTS 2021 – Digital congress

03.05.2021

Biotech innovators TAmiRNA is returning to the European Calcified Tissue Society (ECTS) Congress, this time being staged as a virtual online event, to present latest findings on the efficacy of circulating microRNA as biomarkers and diagnostic mechanisms in diabetic osteopathic diseases.

TAmiRNA research scientist David Carro Vázquez will present results from his investigations on ‘Circulating microRNA analysis in ZDF rats as a model for the identification of biomarkers and disease mechanisms in diabetic osteopathy’ for a live session on Day Two of the Congress. on May 7, 2021, starting  0915 hrs. CEST (UTC +2).

The online Congress will also see David Carro Vázquez receive a New Investigator Award presented by ECTS for one of the top-rated abstracts submitted to the judging panel.

FIDELIO partner

David Carro Vázquez is working with TAmiRNA as a PhD student as part of the EU-funded Innovative Training Network FIDELIO that aims to train the next generation of scientists in tackling the challenges of bone fragility in diabetic patients. TAmiRNA is a key partner in the EU-funded program. David has also has started a secondment at the Bone Lab at the Technical University of Dresden (Technische Universität Dresden), under the supervision of Professor of Molecular Bone Biology and Scientific Director Dr.  Martina Rauner.

osteomiR® technology

The TAmiRNA online presence at ECTS will be led by CEO Dr. Matthias Hackl, who commented:

”We have had a close relationship with ECTS stretching back over almost a decade and we are delighted to see the Congress continue its valuable work in these challenging times.”

“Once again, this event presents us with a great platform from which to communicate our research and technologies in the musculoskeletal field, particularly our osteomiR®  kit that enables rapid detection of microRNAs that could serve as novel validated bone biomarkers for early diagnosis and prognosis of fracture risk in post-menopausal osteoporosis and bone quality,”  said Dr. Hackl.

“The research that David will be presenting show yet further ways that miRNAs open up new possibilities to identify high-risk subsets that qualify for preventive therapeutic treatment as well as providing new insights into the disease mechanism of diabetic osteopathy,” he added.

About TAmiRNA

TAmiRNA specializes in technologies for profiling levels of blood-circulating miRNAs and developing multi-parametric classification algorithms (“signatures”). TAmiRNA uses these technologies to develop minimal-invasive diagnostic tests for drug development, early diagnosis and prognosis of disease, and as companion diagnostic tests to support treatment decisions.

For its work on circulating microRNAs in bone disease, TAmiRNA is receiving funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under the MARIE SKŁODOWSKA-CURIE grant agreement no. 860898.

About ECTS 2021

The European Calcified Tissue Society (ECTS) is the major organisation in Europe for researchers and clinicians working in the musculoskeletal field. The society’s annual meeting serves as a forum for the dissemination of scientific excellence and education in musculoskeletal medicine.

ECTS represents basic researchers, clinicians, students and health allied professionals and is part of a network of more than network of over 30 national and international societies.

The 48th European Calcified Tissue Society Congress, ECTS 2021, will again be a digital event hosted online in recognition of the Covid-19 emergency.  This year, the Digital Congress will be offered in two parts: three days Live Prime Time real time events from May 6, followed by five days of ECTS@Home for streamed downloads during May 19-20, June 10-11 and June 18.

The 2021 Scientific Programme will include a review of the year, essential updates in the musculoskeletal field, contributions and discussions with experts and leaders in the field, and the New Investigator Program developed by ECTS Academy

The event is organized by the European Calcified Tissue Society with further information at: https://www.ects2021.org
